So with juniors all over the country doing their college projects an all, myself included my brain has been spinning with all the possibilities. There are thousands of colleges across the nation but what schools do 90% of highschool students in California choose? UC Berkeley, UCLA & UCSD and probably UCI as a backup school. I don’t know why all students think about are the UC schools? Like there are Cal States, private schools and a million others even abroad! You don’t even have to go to college! There are vocational schools you can go to, for heavens sake you can enlist in the army or even start your own business!
Forbes even has an article about 5 alternatives to college:
Society these days has created the idea that the respectable route after high school is going to college. So you see thousands of kids going to college even if its obvious that its not right for them. If everyone goes to college to become doctors, surgeons, and engineers who is going to run the cute little bakery or fix broken telephone poles? The world doesn’t need a million doctors. That is why I am starting question what I want to do with my life… Actually so are a lot of other kids. Because everyone seems to want to major in Biology, attend UCLA’s medical school and become some sort of pediatrician. Thats what I thought my future was going to be. Everyone I seem to talk to now, they seem to say “I don’t know about medical school…” and I reply with “same.”
I wish I knew what I want to do with my life. But as of right now all I know is that I want to own an ice cream shop sometime in my life.
